Lesaffre is a biotechnology company focused on yeast manufacturing and fermentation. It develops and commercializes yeast, ingredients, sourdoughs, and yeast extracts for baking, taste, healthcare and biotechnology applications. Louis Lesaffre and Louis Bonduelle founded the company in Marcq-en-Barœul, France, in 1853. In 1873, Lesaffre officially began manufacturing baker's yeast in Marcq-en-Barœul, France.
Lesaffre is the worlds largest yeast manufacturing company with 63 production sites, 49 applied science centers, and a commercial presence in 185 countries around the world. The company employs over 10,000 people in 50 countries, and generates approximately €2 billion euros in net sales annually.
On February 27, 2001, Lesaffre announced the acquisition of Red Star Yeast from the Sensient Technologies Corporation, a supplier of colours, flavours and fragrances, for an undisclosed sum.
On July 12, 2018, Lesaffre announced the acquisition of Delavau Food Partners, a bakery ingredients company headquartered in Philadelphia, for an undisclosed sum.
