Lev Artsimovich was a physicist and inventor born on December 2, 1909, in Moscow . He held citizenship in both the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union . Artsimovich was best known for his notable work in the development of the Tokamak , a type of magnetic confinement device used in plasma physics and nuclear fusion research.
During his career, Artsimovich received the prestigious Lenin Prize for his contributions to science . One of his doctoral students was Igor Irodov , who went on to become a renowned physicist in his own right.
Lev Artsimovich passed away in Moscow on March 1, 1973 .
