Lev Yashin (born October 22, 1929, in Moscow, died March 20, 1990, in Moscow) was a Russian football and hockey player, who had citizenship in the Soviet Union. Yashin was educated at the Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth and Tourism. He was known as a goalkeeper and was employed by HC Dinamo Saint Petersburg at one point in his career. Yashin was popularly known by his pseudonyms "La araña negra" , Black Spider, and Black Panther.
Lev Yashin's parents were Ivan Yashin and Anna Yashina. He had two children: Yelena Yashina and Irina Yashina. Lev Yashin was married to Valentina Yashina and also played hockey during his career.
Throughout his career, Yashin received numerous awards, including the UEFA European Championship Team of the Tournament, FIFA XI, Order of Lenin, Olympic Gold Medal, and World Soccer's 100 Greatest Footballers of All Time. He also received recognition as part of several "dream teams," including FIFA World Cup All-Star Team, FIFA World Cup Dream Team, IFFHS Legends, Ballon d'Or Dream Team, IFFHS All-time Men's Dream Team, and the IFFHS All-time Europe Men's Dream Team.
