Lorin Maazel

Lorin Maazel was a composer , music director , and violinist from the United States . Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine on March 6, 1930 , he held American nationality . Maazel was mainly associated with the opera genre and passed away in Rappahannock County, Virginia, on July 13, 2014 . He spent his later years in Castleton, Virginia .

Throughout his life, Maazel received education at various institutions, including the University of Pittsburgh , Peabody High School (Pennsylvania) , Interlochen Center for the Arts , and Fanny Edel Falk Laboratory School . Lorin Maazel was the son of Lincoln Maazel and the father of Fiona Maazel .

Lorin Maazel won the Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance .
