Lorraine Hansberry (1930-1965) was an American writer, playwright, screenwriter, theatre director, and human rights activist. She was born on May 19, 1930, in Chicago, and later became a citizen of the United States.
Hansberry's education took place at multiple institutions, including the University of Wisconsin–Madison, The New School, and Englewood Technical Prep Academy. Her father, Carl Augustus Hansberry, played a significant role in her life.
Throughout her career, Hansberry was involved in various aspects of civil and political rights as well as women's rights. She is best known for authoring the play "A Raisin in the Sun". Lorraine Hansberry passed away on January 12, 1965, in New York City.
