Louis VIII, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt was born on April 5, 1691, in Darmstadt, Germany . He was the child of Ernest Louis, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt, and Margravine Dorothea Charlotte of Brandenburg-Ansbach . His father, Ernest Louis, was the Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt , while his mother, Margravine Dorothea Charlotte, was from the House of Brandenburg-Ansbach .

Louis VIII held German citizenship and later died in his birthplace, Darmstadt, on October 17, 1768 .
