Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (born March 27, 1886) was a German-American architect and designer. He was born in Aachen, Germany, and studied at Berlin University of the Arts.
Mies van der Rohe later became a citizen of the United States and founded the Illinois Institute of Technology. He passed away on August 17, 1969, in Chicago.
