Manuel I of Portugal , also known as the Fortunate , was born on May 31, 1469, in Lisbon, Portugal . He was a member of the House of Aviz and served as the Duke of Beja and Viseu before becoming the King of Portugal in 1495, succeeding his cousin John II . Manuel I of Portugal founded CTT Correios de Portugal, S.A. and received the Order of Saint Anne award . He died on December 13, 1521, in Lisbon, Portugal .
