Marguerite Duras

Marguerite Duras (1914-1996) was a French writer, film director, screenwriter, novelist, playwright, journalist, author, and philosopher. She was born on April 4, 1914, in Ho Chi Minh City and passed away on March 3, 1996, in Paris. Duras held French citizenship and studied at the University of Paris.

Duras was known for writing in the novel genre and her most notable works include The Lover (Duras novel), La Douleur, Moderato Cantabile, The Ravishing of Lol Stein, The Sea Wall, and India Song. In addition to her given name, Marguerite Duras also used a pseudonym with the same name.
