Marion Lois Jones, also known as Marion Jones-Thompson, was born on October 12, 1975, in Los Angeles. She is a dual citizen of the United States and Belize. Jones attended Rio Mesa High School and later went on to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Jones is known as an American former world champion track and field athlete and former professional basketball player. Throughout her career, she received numerous awards and accolades. Some of these include gold medals in events such as the 1997 Athens World Championships in the 100m and 4x100m relay, the 1998 Uniondale Goodwill Games in the 100m and 200m, the 1999 Seville World Championships in the 100m, as well as the 1998 Johannesburg Continental Cup in both the 100m and 200m.
Jones is the daughter of a mother named Marion and holds United States nationality.
