Martin Scorsese (born November 17, 1942) is an American film director, producer, screenwriter, actor, and film editor, known for his work in the film industry. He was born in Queens, New York, and holds citizenship in the United States. Scorsese attended Cardinal Hayes High School and later enrolled at Tisch School of the Arts. He is the founder of The Film Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to film preservation.
Throughout his career, Scorsese has directed numerous critically acclaimed films, including Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Gangs of New York, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and The Irishman. He has also contributed as a producer, editor, and television director for various projects.
Scorsese has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the Academy Award for Best Director, BAFTA Awards, Golden Globe Awards, Grammy Awards, and the Directors Guild of America Award. He has also been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In addition to his work in film, Scorsese is an author and has written the novel Shutter Island.
