Marvin Minsky (August 9, 1927 – January 24, 2016) was an American computer scientist and mathematician. Born in New York City, he held citizenship in the United States and passed away in Boston. Minsky was educated at several institutions, including Harvard University, Princeton University, Phillips Academy, Harvard College, and the Ethical Culture Fieldston School.
Throughout his career, Minsky advised several doctoral students such as James Robert Slagle, Manuel Blum, Danny Hillis, Luc Steels, Joel Moses, and many others. His own doctoral advisor was Albert W. Tucker.
Minsky received the 1969 Turing Award for his contributions to computer science. Some of his notable works include "Society of Mind", "The Emotion Machine", and "Perceptrons" .
