Mary of Burgundy (1457-1482) was born in Brussels as a child of Charles the Bold and Isabella of Bourbon. She held dual citizenship in France and Belgium. Known as the titular Duchess of Burgundy, Mary reigned over the Burgundian State. Upon her father's death during the Battle of Nancy in 1477, Mary inherited the Burgundian lands at the age of 19. She was also known by the nickname "the Rich".
In addition to her political career, Mary had various occupations: she was a politician, queen consort, and mother to several notable figures. Her children include Philip I of Castile, Archduchess Margaret of Austria (1567–1633), and Margaret of Austria, Duchess of Savoy.
Throughout her life, Mary held a Netherlands nationality. She eventually passed away in the city of Bruges in 1482.
