Masayoshi Son is a Tokyo-based entrepreneur with an estimated worth of more than $24 billion, which he earned from various investments and business ventures. The most notable are SoftBank Group and SoftBank Vision Fund.
Son was born on August 11, 1957 on the island of Kyushu in Japan. From a young age, he was interested in entrepreneurship and business. He moved to the United States and attended the University of California at Berkeley and studied computer science and economics. While attending college, he sold his first company, a multilingual translating device, for $1 million.
A little over a year after completing college, Son returned to Japan and founded SoftBank in 1981. The company started by selling software products and later expanded into telecommunications and venture capital. It has two venture capital funds with a total value of more than $200 billion.
Son has invested in major companies, such as Uber and AliBaba. Other companies he has invested in are DoorDash, Yahoo Japan, Vodafone Japan.
