Forward medics must often manage multiple casualties and treatments while waiting for casualty evacuation. Body temperature, evacuation priority, time of treatments, and time on stretcher are just a few of the jobs a medic must handle, all while treating the patient for injuries sustained and arranging for evacuation. The MATBOCK SMART (Stretcher for Medical Assessment and Rescue Transport) litter aims to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the medic by providing easy to use patient tracking systems, easy identification of evacuation priority, and selectable, reusable heating elements in a lightweight and compact system that will not inhibit the medic during operations. These capabilities are instrumental during the patients “golden hour” and will ultimately improve their prognosis while giving the medical teams valuable information needed for immediate care. This system will be integrated by AFRL with their new drone air rescue vehicle already in development for future enhanced rescue operations and the capabilities of the stretcher will be enhanced by participation from USAF end users during the execution of Phase II.
