Maurice Sendak was an American artist, graphic designer, writer, illustrator, cartoonist, and screenwriter born on June 10, 1928, in Brooklyn, New York. He held American citizenship. Maurice Sendak's birth name was Maurice Bernard Sendak. His father was Philip Sendak.
Sendak was educated at the Art Students League of New York and attended Lafayette High School in New York City. He was known for his notable works, including "Where the Wild Things Are" and "In the Night Kitchen". Maurice Sendak was the author of the popular children's book "Where the Wild Things Are".
