Maximilian I, Elector of Bavaria, was born on April 17, 1573, in Munich. He was a member of the House of Wittelsbach and ruled as Duke of Bavaria from 1597. Maximilian I was occasionally referred to as "the Great". He held German citizenship and belonged to the aristocracy class.
His parents were William V, Duke of Bavaria, and Renata of Lorraine. He was the child of both William V and Renata of Lorraine. Maximilian had at least two children: Ferdinand Maria, Elector of Bavaria, and Maximilian Philipp Hieronymus, Duke of Bavaria-Leuchtenberg. Renata of Lorraine was the mother of both Ferdinand Maria and Maximilian Philipp Hieronymus.
Maximilian I, Elector of Bavaria, passed away on September 27, 1651, in Ingolstadt. He was the owner of the Heller Altarpiece.
