Mikael Cho founded Unsplash in May 2013 with Stephanie Liverani (his spouse) and Luke Chesser in Montreal, Canada. Unsplash is a photography website offering free, high-quality images. Within four months of launching their company, they hit one million total downloads, and a year after that, they had more than a million downloads per month. By 2021, the site was logging over 100 million image downloads per month with tens of millions of users and had thousands of partner integrations through the Unsplash API. Getty Images acquired Unsplash in March 2021.
Mikael Cho founded Crew Labs in 2011 with Stephanie Liverani, Luke Chesser, and Angus Woodman. Crew Labs was founded as an online marketplace that connected top designers and developers with curated projects. Crew was acquired by Dribbble in 2017.
Mikael Cho earned his bachelor's in psychology in 2008 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While there, he worked at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in marketing and public relations and at Waisman Lab for Brain Imaging & Behavior as a psychology research analyst.
