Mikhail Lavrentyev

Mikhail Lavrentyev (b. 6 November 1900 in Kazan, d. 15 October 1980 in Moscow) was a physicist, mathematician, and politician. He held Russian Empire and Soviet Union citizenships. He was educated at Moscow State University, University of Paris, and Kazan (Volga region) Federal University.

Lavrentyev was a doctoral advisor to Mstislav Keldysh and Leonid I. Sedov, and his own doctoral advisor was Sergei Sobolev. He was the founder of Akademgorodok and had a child named Mikhail Lavrentyev.
