Established in December 2014, Misterb&b is an LGBTQ+ virtual accommodations app. The company was incubated in Silicon Valley by 500 Startups, an accelerator program. Misterb&b operates out of three offices on three continents and provides the community of LGBTQ+ travelers with access to LGBTQ-friendly properties. Misterb&b's marketplace provides a searchable database of short-term rentals of homes, rooms, and apartments for its users as regards their preferred locations, enabling LGBTQ+ individuals and allies to monetize their spare space. The company participated in the 500 Startups Batch 12 cohort and raised an estimated $10,500,000.
The platform was built for gay men to find short-term rental homes that are secure and accommodative of the LGBTQ+ community. The site lists inclusive resorts and hotels in local cities, possesses city guides, and offers recommendations for gay bars and hangouts, or romantic meals for gay couples. To find a place, users type in the accommodation type they're seeking, the city they're traveling to, the number of people they're traveling with, and when they're going. They can then review search results. There will be a display of rooms, average nightly rates, and photos of the hosts. Photos of the accommodations and prices are available. Users can also open a map to review locations of rentals.
Users can click on the main photo to get more information on places that catch their eye. On the listing page, they'll be able to review details about the room or home, assess its amenities, and read reviews from prior guests. To move forward with a place, there are two options. The first is to contact the host to ask any questions and get a sense of character. The other option is to request to book, which will send a direct request to the host. To choose this option, users will need to provide credit card information, and if the hosts accept, they will be charged and the reservation will be confirmed. Hosts have twenty-four hours to confirm a booking. If it is accepted, a line of communication can be opened up with the host.
