The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology is one of the leading Russian universities in the areas of physics and technology. The university holds a reputable position in the country and abroad for qualified graduate training. Students and graduates of MIPT are representatives of an elite circle who, thanks to their interdisciplinary scientific surroundings, are able to fully realize their potential. History
1946 25th of November is the birthday of MIPT. On this day the decision of the Council of Ministers of the USSR on the establishment of the Physics and Technology Department of Moscow State University was published.
1951 In the working township of Dolgoprudny, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology was organized on the base of the Physics and Technology Department of Moscow State University.
1967 MIPT was awarded the Order of the Red Labor Banner.
1995 MIPT gained the status of state university.
1996 10 th of November marked the decision of the Russian government “On the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (state university), in which the main task of the institute was defined as the training of masters and candidates of science in the modern disciplines of science and technology.
2009 The government of the Russian Federation awarded MIPT the status “National Research University.”
2010 The Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded for the first time to MIPT graduates. Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov became Laureates.
2011 MIPT changed its form from “federal state budget educational institution of higher professional education “Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (State University)” to “federal state autonomous educational institution of higher professional education Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (State University).”
2012 The project to create the technopolis “PhysTech ХХI” was initiated.
2013 MIPT became the winner of the open competition “Project for improving the competitiveness of the universities of the Russian Federation” (the “5 – 100” program) amongst the leading scientific and educational centers of the world.
