The Moscow Kremlin is a fortress in the center of Moscow and its oldest part, the main socio-political, historical and artistic complex of the city, the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation, was the official residence of the General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee.

It is located on the high left bank of the Moskva River - Borovitsky Hill, at the confluence of the Neglinnaya River. In plan, the Kremlin is an irregular triangle with an area of 27.5 hectares. The southern wall faces the Moscow River, the northwestern one faces the Alexander Garden, and the eastern one faces Red Square.
