From the very beginning of our activity, our goal has always been to serve society and offer intelligent and innovative solutions, relying on cutting-edge technology. In all our many years of experience, we have diversified our business, becoming the first group to combine gas and electricity in Spain.
The last years of our history were marked by a decisive change in our strategy: we expanded our business to 20 countries, we were pioneers in the integration of the gas and electric business and in our commitment to clean energy and new technologies for power generation.
In addition, in 2018, to celebrate our 175th anniversary, we made one of the most significant changes in our history: we moved from Gas Natural Fenosa to Naturgy. Our new brand is international, adapted to all the global markets in which we are present and where we will be present in the future, with a focus on innovation, digitization, simplicity and globality. With it, we have given new impetus to being closer to our customers, wherever they are, and to bet on offering simple, clear and environmentally friendly solutions.
The main interests of the corporation are: distribution of natural gas in Spain, Italy and Latin America; production and commercialization of electricity in the liberalized Spanish market (1997-2009), and management of natural gas infrastructure and maritime transport.
The group's largest shareholders are the Spanish bank La Caixa and the global energy company Repsol.
In 2009, Gas Natural acquired the utility company Unión Fenosa for approximately €16.8 billion.
In June 2018, the general meeting of shareholders of Gas Natural approved the change of the company's name to Naturgy Energy Group
