NewsCatcher is a developer of data scraping and crawling API—News API—which helps enterprises get access to news and events by scraping through indexed databases of online-published news articles. The company's API platform specializes in searches to give users structured and relevant news data in near-real time.
NewsCatcher was founded in 2021 by CEO Artem Bugara and CTO Maksym Sugonyaka and is headquartered in Paris. The company participated in the S22 batch of Y Combinator's accelerator program.
NewsCatcher's News API is an enterprise-grade API developed to help companies build custom news feeds to reduce analysts' time for news analysis and research. The News API scrapes over 70,000 news sources covering up to or more than one hundred countries and fifty languages and can provide historical data for up to five years. NewsCatcher offers users an artificially intelligent (AI) summary of articles.
The News API also allows users to bring all news sources into the same format to make it easier for analysts to look at the different articles and data points while ensuring data that is extracted includes the title, article body, published time, and author name, and other data points, while excluding collecting related articles, about the author, and ads sections. The API works to ensure there is no duplication of articles, going as far as clustering articles with text similarity if chosen. Results can be enriched, including a range of filters and criteria:
- Entity linking
- Clustering
- Semantic search
- Result re-ranking
- Topic classification
- Event detection
- Integration with OpenAI/ChatGPT or other open-source LLMs
