Northwest Energy Angels, also known as Element 8, is an investment company in Seattle that invests and provides guidance to early stage cleantech companies. Founded 2006 in Seattle, Washington, United States, it is an angel group that provides capital for seed and early stage ventures. In 2014, the company was renamed Element 8 and was the first angel investment group in North America to focus exclusively on cleantech. As of 2019, its members have invested close to $14 million in 43 companies in Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and British Columbia, Canada. It usually invests in seed, Series A, Series B and convertible notes. Its portfolio companies include LevelTen Energy, Beta Hatch, ConnectDER, APANA, Axiom Exergy, PickMySolar and ESS.
As of 2019 the company has around $37M invested, had 98 deals and had 70 members. Funding includes via equity, capital debt funds, project financing, and innovative revenue-sharing structures. E8 has already invested all around North America in companies working in renewable energy, energy storage and battery technology, green building, energy and resource efficiency, sustainable and precision agriculture, water technologies and bio-remediation, advanced materials and chemistry, non-toxic product substitutions, clean web and software, smart grid, waste to resource and advanced transportation in the form of electric vehicles.
