(full name - Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education "Novosibirsk National Research State University") - one of the national research universities in Russia.

The University is among the participants of Project 5-100, a program to increase the international competitiveness of Russian universities among the world's leading scientific and educational centers.
When founded, it was called "Novosibirsk State University". In 2009, it received the status of a national research university. In 2011, it was renamed into the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education "Novosibirsk National Research State University"
A significant part of the teaching staff is at the same time employees of the institutes of the SB RAS. Senior students of NSU undergo professional research training at the institutes of Akademgorodok.
Novosibirsk State University was established by the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR of January 9, 1958, six months after the decision to establish the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Classes began on September 29, 1959 - Academician S. L. Sobolev gave the first lecture to the students of the new university.
The University was built and developed together with the Novosibirsk Scientific Center, focusing on the training of highly qualified personnel for science and education.
1958
January 9. The Council of Ministers of the USSR adopted a resolution on the organization of the Novosibirsk State University, which was considered as an integral part of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
1959
April 9th. Academician I. N. Vekua was appointed rector of Novosibirsk State University (1959-1965).
May 19. The opening date of the Novosibirsk University with daytime and evening forms of education was determined - September 1, 1959. The only faculty of natural sciences will train specialists in the following areas: mathematics, mechanics, physics, chemistry, geophysical methods of prospecting and exploration of minerals.
September 28th. University classes have begun. The first lecture for students of all specialties, the topic of which was the problems of mathematical science of that time, was delivered by Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences S. L. Sobolev. Since then, according to tradition, the first lecture for first-year students of NSU is given by one of the leading scientists of the Novosibirsk Scientific Center.
1960
August 6th Postgraduate studies at NSU have been opened.
1961
July. The first enrollment of students to the biological department of the Faculty of Natural Sciences (FES) was carried out.
1963
January 23. The country's first specialized physics and mathematics school was opened at NSU (PMS). Admission of students to PMS was carried out by selecting the winners of the All-Siberian Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry Olympiads for schoolchildren.
1964
NSU graduates mathematician Yu. L. Ershov and physicist A. A. Galeev successfully defended dissertations for the degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences already a year after defending their diploma.
1966
April 30. The Komsomol organization and the NSU Interclub organized and held the first Mayovka.
May 3rd Already 2 years after defending his Ph.D. thesis, NSU graduate Yu. L. Ershov successfully defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.
1967
The Faculty of Economics of NSU was organized.
1979
NSU was named after the Lenin Komsomol.
1984
16 October. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Novosibirsk State University was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor for merits in the training of highly qualified specialists for the national economy and the development of science.
1991
4th of July. On the basis of the Polytechnic, located in Akademgorodok, the Higher College of Informatics at NSU was organized.
2004
NSU philologists came up with the "Total Dictation" campaign, which became an annual event and by 2007 had gained international scope.
2005
NSU and Kim Il Sung University signed a cooperation agreement[6]
2007
In Moscow, the results of the All-Russian competition of innovative educational programs, held within the framework of the national project "Education", were summed up. As a result of the competition, Novosibirsk State University received 930 million rubles for the implementation of the project "Innovative educational programs and technologies implemented on the principles of partnership between a classical university, science, business and the state" (implementation period - 2007-08).
2013
The university was among the 15 winners of the "competitive selection of universities for the right to receive a special subsidy for the implementation of activities that will promote the promotion of universities in international rankings"[7].

A new educational and laboratory building of NSU was opened

A tradition that existed in the mid-1960s, it was preceded by torchlight processions of students and teachers on the occasion of the holiday of Solidarity of the Workers on May 1.
Participants of the carnival dressed up in various costumes, organized processions, contests, games. Be sure to choose the queen and king of the university. The carnival provided an opportunity for students to communicate informally with their teachers and the leadership of NSU, which, in turn, was one of the manifestations of free-thinking characteristic of the Novosibirsk Academgorodok.
Week of International Solidarity (Interweek)
In the autumn of 1965, the Interclub was created at NSU. Its tasks include establishing contacts with student organizations in other countries, holding the Weeks of International Solidarity and the Mayovka festival. The first Mayovka was held on April 30, 1966.
Representatives of left-wing youth organizations from different countries were invited to the Interweek. Particular attention was paid to contacts with students from the developing countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America, as well as with opposition students from countries where dictatorial regimes were in power at that time (Spain, Portugal, Greece).
Traditionally, the event was held in the last days of April, and Maevka on April 30, before the Day of International Solidarity of Workers. So, on April 30, 1975, Mayovka announced the news about the capture of Saigon by the North Vietnamese army and the end of the long-term war in Vietnam.
Political song festivals at NSU, as well as the political song ensemble “Amigo” created at NSU, are also associated with this tradition. The first such festival took place on December 16, 1972.
In 1991, Mayovka turned into an open-air concert that ended the Interweek music festival.
