Novosibirsk Zoo named after Rostislav Aleksandrovich Shilo it is thee largest zoo in Siberia, and is one of the largest zoos in Russia.
It occupies an area of 65 hectares, it contains about 11,000 individuals of 770 species.
More than 350 species are listed in the International Red Book.
About 180 species are listed in the Red Book of Russia and Regional Red Books. International studbooks are maintained for 110 species.
The Novosibirsk Zoo breeds felines and mustelids, so there is one of the best collections of representatives of these families in the world.
Here, for the first time in the world, the offspring of the river otter, Asian wild goose, bandages, Kamchatka snow sheep and many other rare animals were obtained.
The zoo team participates in 77 international programs for the conservation of rare and endangered species of animals.
It is a member of two international unions: EARAZA (Eurasian Regional Association of Zoos and Aquariums), WAZA (International Association of Zoos and Aquariums); candidate member of EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquariums).
Participates in the international computer program ZIMS.
On July 29, 2016, the Novosibirsk Zoo was named after Rostislav Alexandrovich Shilo. Rostislav Alexandrovich Shilo, headed the zoo for 47 years since July 1969. Under his leadership, the zoo experienced its revival and becoming a national treasure.
Rostislav Shilo is an Honored Worker of Culture, awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor, the Order of Friendship, the Veteran of Labor Medal and the Order of the White Crow. In 1999 he was chosen Person of the Year, in 2003 he was awarded the medal "For Contribution to the Heritage of the Peoples of Russia", since 2007 - an Honorary resident of the city of Novosibirsk. Now the zoo is headed by his son Shilo Andrey Rostislavovich.
