Novosibirsk Zoo named after Rostislav Aleksandrovich Shilo is one of the largest zoos in Russia. It occupies an area of 65 hectares, it contains about 11,000 individuals of 770 species. More than 350 species are listed in the International Red Book. About 180 species are listed in the Red Book of Russia and Regional Red Books. International studbooks are maintained for 110 species.
The Novosibirsk Zoo breeds felines and mustelids, so there is one of the best collections of representatives of these families in the world. The zoo team participates in 77 international programs for the conservation of rare and endangered species of animals. It is a member of two international unions: EARAZA (Eurasian Regional Association of Zoos and Aquariums), WAZA (International Association of Zoos and Aquariums); candidate member of EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquariums). Participates in the international computer program ZIMS.
