Since its inception in 1978 the ARINC 429 data bus standard has been used on most higher-end commercial avionics and transport aircraft to transfer digital data between avionics systems. ARINC 429 is a critical component that defines the standard requirements and protocols for the transportation of digital data between avionic systems in aircraft. The problem is that most commercial and transport aircraft used in both the civilian and military sectors do not have test ports available for the ARINC 429. For this Phase I effort NuWaves Engineering (NuWaves) will conduct a feasibility study and demonstrate a prototype of a non-intrusive method for coupling the data signal off the small unshielded cabled portion of the ARINC 429 data bus and then process it back into digitized packets for analytical use.
