Obsidian is a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain platform for anonymous and private messaging. Obsidians private messaging platform, Obsidian Secure Messenger (OSM), is powered by its own utility cryptocurrency called the Obsidian Coin (ODN). The Obsidian messaging platform was released in 2018 on Google Play and was community funded and developed. All of Obsidian's assets and intellectual property were donated to a non-profit called ODIN Society which is an organization that is verified and registered with the Financial Conduct Authority of the United Kingdom.
Obsidian Coin (ODN) is based on the STRAT cryptocurrency used by Stratis, which was originally based on Bitcoin. Obsidian offers an official Obsidian cryptocurrency wallet that allows users to stake their Obsidian coin (ODN) to earn staking rewards. The wallet is available for Linux, MacOS, and Microsoft Windows.
On August 26, 2017 Obsidian completed their initial coin offering (ICO) selling approximately $1.56 million worth of their platforms utility Obsidian Coin (ODN). The Obsidian ICO ran from August 12, 2017 and ended on August 26, 2017.
