Oculus VR is an American virtual reality technology company that is headquartered in Menlo park, California and was founded in 2012 by Bredan Iribe, Jack McCauley, Michael Antonov, Nate Mitchell, and Palmer Luckey.
On June 17, 2013 Oculus VR completed their series A funding round with $16 million in funding from Spark Capital (lead investor), Matrix Partners (lead investor), Founders Fund, and Formation 8. The company plans on using their series A funding to hire more employees, primarily engineers.
On December 12, 2013 Oculus VR completed their series B funding round with $75 million in funding from Andreessen Horowitz (lead investor), Spark Capital, Matrix Partners, and Formation 8. At the time of announcing their series B funding, Oculus VR also announced Andreessen Horowitz will be joining their board of directors.
On March 25, 2014 Oculus VR was acquired by Facebook for $2 billion. The CEO and founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, made the following statement regarding Facebook acquiring Oculus VR:
