OPX Biotechnologies is a biotechnology company making bio-based chemicals that is headquartered in Boulder, Colorado and was founded in 2007 by Micheal Lynch. The company uses its patented biotechnology platform called EDGE (Efficiency Directed Genome Engineering) to engineer microbes capable of cost-effective bioprocesses such as the conversion of sugar feedstocks into BioAcrylic Acid and Specialty Fatty Acids.
On April 28, 2015 OPX Biotechnologies was acquired by Cargill. Cargill purchased OPX Biotechnologies for their proprietary fermentation-based processes and systems for producing bio-based chemicals from sugars to be used in lubricants, detergents, plastics, agrichemicals and personal care products. The CEO of OPX Biotechnologies, Mike Rosenberg, made the following public statement regarding Cargill acquiring the company:
