Owl Autonomous Imaging's thermal imaging platform, called Thermal Ranging, is a 3D sensor using proprietary artificial intelligence, deep learning, and foveal optics to extract dense range maps from radiated heat signatures without illumination. The company has built the platform with safety in mind, as the automotive market works to develop safe products, especially if those products are autonomous. Thermal Ranging provides HD imaging and precision ranging, offering improvements in resolution and cloud density of LiDAR.
The thermal imaging solution is capable of operating regardless of time of day and weather and is capable of classifying various objects, including pedestrians, cyclists, animals, and vehicles, and calculating position, direction, and speed. These latter calculations are intended to provide the vehicle with safe autonomous or semi-autonomous operation by being able to calculate where any objects may or may not be moving to or from.
