Paul I of Russia, born on September 20, 1754, was a philosopher and the Emperor of the Russian Empire. He was the son of Peter III of Russia and Catherine the Great. Paul I was the father to several children, including Alexander I of Russia, Grand Duke Konstantin Pavlovich of Russia, and Nicholas I of Russia.
He founded Saint Michael's Castle, which he also owned, along with Gatchina Palace. Paul I of Russia was born and died in Saint Petersburg, with his death occurring on March 12, 1801.
Under the pseudonym "Павел I", Paul I pursued his interests as a philosopher. As a member of the Russian Imperial family, he contributed to the country's political, cultural, and intellectual landscape throughout his reign as Emperor.
