Pearl S. Buck (born Pearl Comfort Sydenstricker) was an American writer, journalist, screenwriter, missionary, human rights activist, and novelist . She was born on June 26, 1892, in Hillsboro, West Virginia, United States . Buck was educated at Randolph–Macon College and Cornell University . Her father was Absalom Sydenstricker .
Buck wrote in various genres, including biography and novels . She used the pseudonym John Sedges as a writer . Some of her notable works include East Wind: West Wind, The Good Earth, Imperial Woman, Dragon Seed, China Sky, Letter from Peking, The Big Wave, The Living Reed, The Exile, and Fighting Angel .
Pearl Buck received the 1938 Nobel Prize in Literature, Pulitzer Prize, and William Dean Howells Medal for her works . In addition to her writing career, Buck worked as a translator . She passed away on March 6, 1973, in Danby, Vermont .
