Philip I, Landgrave of Hesse

Philip I, Landgrave of Hesse , was born on November 13, 1504, in Marburg , and died on March 31, 1567, in Kassel . He was the son of Landgrave William II of Hesse and his second wife Anna of Mecklenburg-Schwerin . Philip I held the occupations of politician and king , and was known as a champion of the Protestant Reformation in Germany . He was a national of Germany .

Throughout his life, Philip fathered several children, including: Christine of Hesse , William IV, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel , Louis IV, Landgrave of Hesse-Marburg , George I, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt , Philip II, Landgrave of Hesse-Rheinfels , and others . His mother was Anna of Mecklenburg-Schwerin , and his father was William II, Landgrave of Hesse . Philip I was also known by the nicknames "der Großmütige" and "the Magnanimous" .
