Who is Pink?
Pink is a singer-songwriter hailing from America who has also dabbled with acting and emerged successful in all her experimental attempts. She had an affinity to singing and song writing and even as a child she penned lyrics with grave meanings. She became a member of a band in her high school and later formed her own band named ‘Choice’. This band song was heard by musician L. A. Reid and on his advice, Pink embarked on a career as a solo artist. She recorded songs and even wrote songs for her own album as well as for other artists. Her first album’s first song ‘There You Go’ itself earned her immense popularity, and proved Reid’s suggestion to be beneficial to her. She then kept on producing albums which consisted singles which became immediate successes and even reached the top ten on the ‘Billboard Hot 100’ chart. Her concert tours also met with immense success and helped her built a foundation as an international artist. This talented singer-songwriter embarked into a career as an actress and her performance in the film ‘Thanks for Sharing’ was highly acclaimed. She has collaborated with various artists and event these projects stood out. This versatile continues her artistic career and has a long way to go
Career
When she was sixteen years old, she formed an R&B band ‘Choice’, along with associates Chrissy Conway and Stephanie Galligan. The band recorded a song ‘Key to My Heart’ and sent in to Atlanta to the record label ‘LaFace Records’ and this song impressed musician L. A. Reid.
This earned the band a contract and they shifted to Atlanta. However, the album which they recorded was not released, and their song ‘Key to My Heart’ was featured in the 1996 film ‘Kazaam’.
Reid saw the talent which Pink possessed and suggested her to continue a career as a solo artist. She followed his suggestion and in 1998, the band ‘Choice’ ceased to exist. She then entered into a contract with the ‘LaFace Records’ company and started to work on her first solo album.
In 2000, her first song ‘There You Go’ hit the music stores and became an immense hit, reaching the seventh position at the ‘Billboard Hot 100’. The same year, her album ‘Can’t Take Me Home’ reached the audience and became a hit. It was placed at number 26 in the ‘Billboard 200’ chart and the ‘Recording Industry Association of America’ (RIAA) even certified it with double platinum.
The albums second song ‘Most Girls’ reached number four on the ‘Billboard Hot 100’ and topped the music charts in Australia. The same year, she even toured with the ‘NSYNC’ band in their ‘No Strings Attached Tour’.
In 2001, she along with singers Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim and Mýa recorded a cover of the song ‘Lady Marmalade’. This song met with huge success and even earned her the ‘Grammy Award’ for the first time.
Her next album was ‘Missundaztood’ and in this album, and the first single of the album ‘Get the Party Started’ reached number four on the ‘Billboard Hot 100’ list. The song topped the music charts in Australia, Spain, Ireland, Romania and New Zealand. It topped the ‘European Hot 100 Singles’ chart for four weeks.
Other singles of the albums such as ‘Just Like a Pill’, ‘Don’t Let Me Get Me’ and ‘Family Portrait’ were also received well by the listeners and critics.
In 2002, she made her first concert tour ‘Party Tour’ and also joined musician Lenny Kravitz in his ‘American Tour’. She was entitled the ‘Top Female Billboard 200 Artist’ for the year.
In 2003, she sang the song ‘Feel Good Time’ which was featured in the film ‘Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle’. She also appeared in a minor role in the same film. The same year, her third album ‘Try This’ was released and this too reached the top ten in the US, Australia, Canada album charts.
However, it was not a huge commercial hit as that her previous album ‘Missundaztood’. She even embarked on the ‘Try This Tour’ and this was her second concert tour.
She wrote the songs of her fourth album ‘I’m Not Dead’ and it was released in April 2006 under the banner ‘LaFace Records’ which tuned out to be successful, and ranked among the top ten in the US, top five in the UK and topped the charts in Australia and Germany.
The song ‘Stupid Girls’ was a huge hit and even the music video of the song was immensely successful. The other songs of the album such as ‘Who Knew’, ‘Nobody Knows’, ‘Dear Mr. President’ and ‘Leave Me Alone (I'm Lonely)’ also met with some success. Subsequently, she went on the concert tour supporting the album ‘I’m Not Dead Tour’, which made a record of biggest concert attendance for an arena tour by a female artist.
During the period 2006-07, she performed with many artists such as India.Arie, Justin Timberlake, Natalia Druyts, and even wrote a few songs for some of them. During the same time, she also starred in the horror film ‘Catacombs’ along with Shannyn Sossamon.
In 2008, her fifth studio album ‘Funhouse’ was released and the album topped the ‘ARIA’ charts. The first single of the album ‘So What’ was written by Pink along with Max Martin and Shellback. It song did not have a proper release as it leaked online, but as soon as it reached the listeners, it became a smashing hit. The album consisted of other singles such as ‘Sober’, ‘Please Don’t Leave Me’, ‘Bad Influence’ and ‘Funhouse’.
In 2009, a collection of her first four albums hit the music stores and it turned into a huge success. She also appeared in a documentary ‘The People Speak’ which was based on the book ‘A People's History of the United States’ by Howard Zinn. The same year, she also embarked on the ‘Funhouse Tour’.
She performed an aerial act along with her song ‘Glitter in the Air’ at the ‘2010 Grammy Awards’ for which she was given a standing ovation. She recorded a remake of the song ‘We Are the World’. She collaborated with artists such as Herbie Hancock, John Legend, John Lennon and Eminem during the same year.
In October 2010, her song ‘Raise Your Glass’ was released which was the first release of the compilation album ‘Greatest Hits… So Far!!!’. This song topped the ‘Billboard Hot 100’ chart, and the second song of the album ‘Fuckin’ Perfect’ ranked second in the chart.
In 2011, she lent her voice to the character named Gloria in the animated movie ‘Happy Feet Two’, as well as sang the theme song of the movie ‘Bridge of Light’.
In 2012, she wrote the songs of her next album ‘The Truth About Love’ which reached the music lovers the same year, ‘Blow Me (One Last Kiss)’ being its first single to be released. The album topped the ‘Billboard 200’ list, and also became the ‘world's sixth best-selling album’ for the year. The ‘RIAA’ gave it a double platinum certificate.
Among the other songs of the album ‘The Truth About Love’, are ‘Try’, ‘Just Give Me a Reason’, ‘True Love’, ‘Are We All We Are’ and ‘Walk of Shame’. The song ‘Just Give Me a Reason’ was the most successful song of the album and ranked number one at the music charts of more than 20 countries and topped the ‘Billboard Hot 100’ chart.
In 2012, she featured in the song ‘Guns and Roses’ of the album ‘Trouble Man: Heavy Is the Head’. She was the songwriter of the songs ‘I Walk Alone’ and Lie to Me’ which featured in the album ‘Closer to the Truth’ by artist Cher. She did an exceptional acting in the film ‘Thanks for Sharing’.
In 2013, she entered into a contract with the ‘RCA Records’ which was a multi-album contract. The following year, she collaborated with singer-songwriter Dallas Greenand formed the band ‘You+Me.
In 2014, the band ‘You+Me’ produced their first album named ‘rose ave’, and the album ranked number four on the ‘Billboard 200’ and also topped the ‘US Folk Albums’ chart.
