Pison is a human performance company that optimizes cognitive and physiological capability using gesture control. It has a full-stack solution that combines software, hardware, machine learning, and UX for drones and AR industries. The company has developed wearable technology intended to create a gesture-controlled ecosystem using the company's patented electroneurography technology. This includes an ultra-sensitive and wearable biopotential sensor that has advanced virtual reality multipoint hand control, full-body prosthetic and exoskeleton input, and a communications and electronics platform.
The company was founded in 2016 by Dexter Ang, with partners and investors including First round DRF, Oculus, MIT, Draper, HHS, National Science Foundation, Bose Ventures, and In-Q-Tel.
Pison's technology originally was developed to help ALS patients who could no longer move their extremities control digital interfaces just by thinking of the intended physical movement. This was informed, in part, from Dexter Ang's experience with ALS, after his mother was diagnosed with it. And during the progression of the disease on Ang's mother, Ang began to develop the technology which underpins the company's platform.
Pison's electroneurography and neural intelligence platform enable multiple capabilities including gesture controls and AI neural insights. Pison's technology uses neurological insights for its platform, which can further support innovations in medicine, sports performance, and general wellness.
One version of this technology included a sensor on a wearer's wrist, similar to a watch or fitness tracker, which is able to capture the tiny movements of muscles and tendons and the electrical signals from the brain, which are then processed by Pison's software to control the device they are being sent to. This allows users to interact with applications and smartphones, manipulate objects in augmented reality, and communicate with robots and machines.
By leveraging neuromuscular sensing capabilities, Pison's artificial intelligence platform enables control of any digital system with the thought of moving a finger. The gesture control systems use a patented electroneurography platform to translate the data from the body's natural physiology electricity stemming at the brain into interpretable events in software. This allows for intuitive control in the IoT universe. Suggested capabilities of this technology include the following:
- augmented reality manipulation and control
- robotics control
- factory machinery control
- phone and computer control
- smart home control
- audio AI assistant control
Pison's physiological insight platform works to detect and interpret neuromuscular data points for wearable technology to help customers maximize training outcomes and human performance. This platform works to interpret the data produced by the body's natural physiological electricity in order to develop insights about a person's health and mental status in new ways.
Suggested use cases for this include passive neurophysiological context sensing, which can be used to uncover neurophysiological patterns and signatures. It has also been suggested for developing actionable performance insights, taking raw signals to inform performance improvements for something like professional sports.
