Platformatic, a company focused on simplifying Node.js development, has successfully raised $4.3 million in a recent seed funding round. The round was led by Rialto Ventures, with participation from existing investors Decibel and Panache Ventures. This latest funding brings the company's total seed funding to $7.8 million, following an earlier round announced in June 2023.
The funding is set to accelerate Platformatic’s product development - with an emphasis on addressing the challenges enterprises face when using Node.js applications. Node.js, a widely used technology with over two billion annual downloads, powers major platforms such as Netflix. However, while it is efficient, it is complex and this can pose operational challenges. Issues such as maintenance challenges, scaling concerns, and performance can lead to delays in development, higher costs and risks. Platformatic has introduced new features to address these challenges, including the Watt Application Server, the Intelligent Autoscaler, and the Command Center.
Luca Maraschi, co-founder and CEO of Platformatic, highlighted the need to bridge the gap between developers, operators, and business leaders. He stated: "In my years spent as a CTO, my time was torn between bridging the needs of developers, operators, and the business. With our enterprise offering, we set out to build the path to the most optimized version of your Node.js app that works for you, your team, and architecture."
Platformatic’s Command Center further enhances the platform’s value by providing a unified dashboard for monitoring, managing, and optimizing Node.js applications. It offers insights into key metrics such as application taxonomy, audit logs, and deployment risk analysis, allowing teams to centralize their management efforts.
Maraschi emphasized the goal of combining the reliability of older technologies with the flexibility of cloud-native solutions. "Our platform is designed to optimize Node.js applications, making them more efficient and easier to manage from the top down and bottom up," he said.
Platformatic’s co-founder and CTO, Matteo Collina stated: "We’ve built a platform that not only enhances the power of Node.js but also simplifies the developer experience with out-of-the-box best practices,".
Simone Brunozzi, General Partner and Co-Founder at Rialto Ventures commented on Platformatic’s progress saying: "Their vision for the future of Node.js and ability to understand the unique challenges faced by enterprises is what sets them apart, allowing them to deliver a truly game-changing platform."
