Pop!_OS is a free and open-source operating system for STEM and other creative professionals produced by System76, a Denver-based company manufacturing and providing support for Linux laptops, desktops, and servers. An Ubuntu-based Linux distribution, Pop!_OS features a custom GNOME desktop and is designed to minimize clutter on the desktop.
System76 had been shipping its computers with Ubuntu installations since its founding in 2005. With Ubuntu shifting to GNOME shellGNOME shell from Unity along with other changes, in 2017 System76 decided to give their own take on a Linux desktop OS with the release of Pop!_OS.
