Other attributes
Prostatitis is a disease in which the prostate gland becomes inflamed.
The prostate gland is a male organ, for this reason the disease develops only in men. This is a common urological disease. At the initial stage of the development of pathology, treatment is carried out with the help of drugs and physiotherapy. The specific treatment regimen is determined depending on the individual clinical picture of the patient.
Forms of prostatitis
There are IV categories of prostatitis:
- acute prostatitis;
- chronic prostatitis;
- bacterial prostatitis;
- asymptomatic chronic prostatitis.
Prostatitis is often combined with the following diseases: urethritis, vesiculitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Causes of the disease
In our time, several main causes of prostatitis have been identified. They were conditionally divided into the following groups:
- Non-infectious (stagnant). The disease occurs due to a decrease in immunity, hypothermia, decreased physical activity, a sedentary lifestyle, prolonged sexual abstinence, or vice versa, excessive sexual activity, alcohol abuse, etc.
- Infectious. The disease can occur due to the introduction of sexually transmitted infections into the body: a chronic infectious disease, tonsillitis, sinusitis, kidney pathology, surgical operations on the pelvic organs.
Increase the risk of disease, injury and hormonal disorders.
Acute form of prostatitis
Acute prostatitis is an acute inflammation of the prostate, which is caused by a bacterial infection of its tissue. With such a course of pathology, urgent medical care is needed.
Etiology and pathogenesis
Acute prostatitis can occur due to the introduction of pathogenic bacteria into the human body: enterobacter, enterococci, Staphylococcus aureus, and others. Some microorganisms from these agents are components of the normal microflora of the body, and are constantly present on the skin, in the intestines, etc. In the event that bacteria penetrate the prostate tissue, they can provoke the development of inflammation.
Signs and symptoms
In men who have acute prostatitis, the following complaints may appear:
- chills;
- temperature increase;
- fever;
- pain in the pelvic area;
- discomfort in the lower back, lower abdomen or perineum;
- violation of urination;
- intoxication of the organism;
- pain during defecation.
The appearance of specific symptoms depends on: the form of the disease, the stage of neglect, the individual characteristics of the patient's body.
Diagnostics
The following methods are used to diagnose acute prostatitis:
- measurement of rectal temperature, armpit or mouth temperature;
- palpation of the perineal lymph nodes;
- general clinical blood test;
- expanded leukocyte formula;
- analysis for prostate specific antigen;
- general clinical analysis of urine;
- tank culture for sensitivity to antibiotics, etc.
If necessary, an additional examination is prescribed: CT, MRI, transrectal ultrasound.
Treatment
An individual treatment regimen is determined on the basis of the obtained diagnostic results. A physiotherapeutic method of treatment, medical or surgical, is used.
