PURIS, formerly known as World Food Processing, was founded in 1985 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and would later move its headquarters to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2016 for a more business friendly manufacturing environment. The company makes plant-based protein, fiber, and starch ingredients primarily out of organic and non-GMO peas grown in the United States. PURIS supplies American farmers with seeds and buys back the organic and non-GMO crops from them at the end of the growing season. Once crops are harvested PURIS removes any unwanted materials such as rocks, sticks, or stems at their crop processing facility. After crops are cleaned and processed they are manufactured into PURIS products.
Products made by PURIS are organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, preservative-free, solvent-free, dairy-free, Kosher, Halal, allergen friendly, vegan, and grown and made in the United States.
On January 23, 2018, PURIS raised $25,000,000 in venture capital funding from Cargill. This funding solidifies an joint-venture agreement between PURIS and Cargill. Cargill will be helping PURIS distribute and manufacture pea-based protein products by allowing PURIS to access their distribution channels and provide capital to build another production facility.
On June 19, 2018, PURIS raised $12,500,000 in series D funding from Cargill.
