City in Ukraine
Radekhiv is a city in Chervonohrad Raion, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine. Located on the flat and undulating terrain of the Nadbužany basin, above the river Ostrivka - a tributary of the Styr. The main European watershed passes through the city.
The population is 9,750 inhabitants. According to statistics, in 1880 there were 3,555 inhabitants in Radekhiv, and in 2001 - 9,230. In 2020, 13.1 thousand people.

The history of the city is over 5 centuries. Initially, Radekhiv was a settlement, later a village, in the twentieth century (until 1939) - a county town, and after the liberation of western Ukraine and their inclusion in the USSR received the status of a city. After the proclamation of Ukraine's independence, the city became the administrative center of the district of the same name. In 2020, after a change in the administrative-territorial structure, it lost the status of a district center.
According to folk etymology, the name "Radekhiv" is explained by the phrase "happy to hide", because people often had to hide from enemies in forests, swamps and reeds. However, local ethnographers claim that the name of the city has anthroponymic origin: "Radekh" from "Radoslav", "Radolyub" and so on.
The first written mention of Radekhiv dates back to 1472. The territory where the city was founded was part of the Belz principality, which was formed around 1170 and belonged first to Volodymyr-Volynskyi and then to Halyts'kyi-Volynskyi. books.
At the beginning of the XVIII century Radekhiv passed into the possession of Count Mir. In Radekhiv, the count built a large palace, which became the center of the magnate's latifundia. Trade gradually began to revive in the town, which turned it into a city.
In the second half of the 19th century, the Radekhiv Latifundia passed to the family of Count Badeni, who married Mira's daughter. Badeni was considered the seventh of the ten richest magnates in Galicia and was the viceroy of the Austrian emperor in Galicia. He rebuilt and expanded the palace, planted a park, built a greenhouse and ordered to fence his property with a three-meter stone wall. Count Badeni, a father who did much to enrich himself. At that time there were small industrial and trade firms in Radekhiv. In 1910, the construction of the Baden-funded Lviv-Stoyaniv railway was completed in Radekhiv.
According to statistics, in 1880 in Radekhiv lived 3555 people. It is known that 129 people served at the public court.
At the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, there were a number of public organizations in Radekhiv, in particular the Farmer's Society. For 16 years, the School Friends of Money Association has been operating to provide material assistance to poor children, regardless of their nationality or religion. The Brotherhood of Sobriety also operated.
The Enlightenment Society has been active since the second half of the 19th century. It aimed to protect the interests of the Ukrainian language and culture and to raise the level of education of the local Ukrainian population. The reading room in Radekhiv itself was opened in May 1897.
In November 1912 the solemn consecration of the People's House took place. Nowadays, this building houses the Radekhiv Central Library under the City Council. In the People's House there was an industrial school, a folk school, a society "Native School", "Education", "Farmer".
At the end of 2018, Radekhiv became the administrative center of the united territorial community.

The H17 highway (Lviv-Radekhiv-Lutsk) and the T 1410 Chervonohrad-Radekhiv highway pass through Radekhiv. The city still has a railway connection from Lviv, Lutsk, Chernivtsi.
There is a monument to Taras Shevchenko in the city. In 2008, the figure of Jesus Christ was inaugurated and consecrated. Also in the center near the Market Square is a figure of an angel with a sword, which preserves the peace of the city.

Lukyanenko Levko Hryhorovych - Ukrainian politician and public figure, Soviet dissident and co-founder of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group was a regular propagandist of the party's district committee in Radekhiv district from September 1958 to 1961. During his stay in the city, he constantly traveled to the villages of the district and saw the state of affairs there. In the course of this, Lukyanenko, together with Stepan Virun and Vasyl Lutskiv, decided to create an underground party, the Ukrainian Workers 'and Peasants' Union. Polish public figure, politician, Count Stanislaw Badeni is buried in Radekhiv.
