Randy Newman (born November 28, 1943) is an American singer-songwriter, composer, musician, screenwriter, pianist, and journalist. He was born Randall Stuart Newman in Los Angeles, United States. Newman studied at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
As a musician, Newman has explored various genres including rock music, film score, pop music, alternative country, soft rock, roots rock, comedy rock, and contemporary R&B. He is the father of producer Eric Newman.
Throughout his career, Randy Newman has received numerous awards, such as the Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media and the Grammy Award for Best Arrangement, Instrumental, and Vocals. Among his well-known works, Newman is the author of the song "Mama Told Me Not to Come".
