Ray Dolby (born Ray Milton Dolby on January 18, 1933) was an American audio engineer, inventor, and founder of Dolby Laboratories. Born in Portland, Oregon, Dolby held citizenship in the United States. He passed away on September 12, 2013, in San Francisco.
Dolby was educated at several institutions, including San Jose State University, Sequoia High School in Redwood City, California, Pembroke College, Cambridge, and Stanford University.
In his career, Ray Dolby served as an engineer, audio engineer, and held various patents for his inventions. He founded Dolby Laboratories and was a 2004 inductee into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
Ray Dolby was the father to a child named Tom Dolby.
