Redis is a developer of an in-memory database platform designed for transactional, analytics, and hybrid deployments. The enterprise platform is built upon the open-source Redis in-memory database, with enterprise features including real-time anlaytics, high-volume transactions, in-app social functionality, application job management, and caching. Redis Enterprise offers service for over 8,000 organizations and builds on the simplicity and execution speed of open-source Redis to develop the enterprise platform. Redis was founded in 2011 as Redis Labs and is based in Mountain View, California.
Redis was renamed in 2021 from Redis Labs in part to signal the company's change from the developer and sponsor of the Redis open-source project toward a new company focus on the growth of the Redis platform as an enterprise real-time data platform built upon the original open-source Redis.
The Redis open-source platform is an in-memory data structure store used as a database, cache, message broker, and streaming engine. This includes providing data structures such as strings, hashes, lists, sets, sorted sets with range queries, bitmaps, hyperloglogs, geospatial indexes, and streams. Redis delivers sub-millisecond response times, enabling millions of requests per second, and is developed for real-time applications.
Redis Stack is Redis's enterprise platform built upon open-source Redis. Redis Stack was developed to build real-time applications with a back-end data platform capable of the same original Redis core functions but with an extended feature set that includes JSON, Search and Query, Time Series, and Probabilistic. Further, the features give users insights through RedisInsight, which offers a visualization tool for understanding and optimizing data on Redis Stack.
Redis Stack is offered through two packages: Redis Stack Server, which contains the Redis OSS and module extensions only, not RedisInsight; and Redis Stack, which contains everything in Redis Stack Server along with the RedisInsight application.
