The company started at the John Hopkins School of Medicine while the founders worked on clinical trials during their medical training. They based StudyTeam off of the experience and perspectives they received while researching, and decided to make the goal of the company to make clinical research accessible to more patients and sites.

StudyTeam has been adopted by academic medical centers and other clinical research sites around the United States.
