Renegade Bio improved on the CDC PCR-based diagnostic testing method for COVID-19 by reducing four reactions to a single step that eliminates the need for the RNA extraction step. The test is claimed to cost 70% less and take half the time to complete. Renegade partnered with the Bay Area Phlebotomy and Laboratory Services with the aim to allow open public testing on-demand as an Uber-like service. The company is beginning by testing San Francisco Bay Area first responders and police forces and is running 1300 tests every three days.
