Rod Laver

Rod Laver , born on 9 August 1938 in Rockhampton , is an Australian tennis player . His full name is Rodney George Laver . Laver holds Australian nationality and currently resides in Carlsbad, California .

He is widely known as an 11-time Grand Slam singles winner, having achieved two Grand Slams - one in 1962 as an amateur and the other in 1969 as a professional . Laver is the only male tennis player to win a Grand Slam since the open era began . His notable awards include titles at Wimbledon , US Open , and Australian Open .

In addition, Rod Laver has shown exceptional performance in doubles categories, earning nine Grand Slam titles in men's and mixed doubles . He secured victories at the US Open for professionals, the Wembley Championship, and the French Open for professionals, accumulating a total of eight professional Grand Slams from 1963-1969 .

Apart from his individual merits, Laver contributed to the Australian tennis team as a five-time Davis Cup winner (1959-1962, 1973) . In recognition of his remarkable career, he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1981 .
