Roger I of Sicily was born in Hauteville-la-Guichard in 1031. He held citizenship in the County of Sicily. Roger was the founder of Castello Normanno in Paternò. Throughout his life, Roger had numerous children, including Roger II of Sicily, Simon of Sicily, Jordan of Hauteville, Geoffrey, Count of Ragusa, Mauger, Count of Troina, Felicia of Sicily, Emma of Hauteville, and Constance of Sicily (regent).
Roger I of Sicily was the son of Tancred of Hauteville. He later died on June 22, 1101 in Mileto.
